Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is one of the only known natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12, and it contains many minerals vital to the growth process and healthy function of all the body's systems. Numerous studies worldwide indicate that aloe vera is a general tonic for the immune system, helping it to fight illness of all kinds.

There is no single ingredient that makes Aloe vera potent and healthful. An endocrinologist-biologist, explains that fifteen different compound groups of nutrients work together to make the plant effective. This means that Aloe vera's effects cannot be synthesized easily in a laboratory. On the upside, this makes the plant useful across a wide spectrum of circumstances. And because the various elements that make Aloe effective are nutrients rather than drugs, Aloe juice may complement medical treatments.

Juice Extraction
  • Harvest ten to twelve leaves from the bottoms of mature plants three to four hours after watering. Wash the leaves with warm water or water and vinegar.
  • The yellow liquid that drips out of the leaf must be washed away.
  • Use a sharp knife to fillet the gel within the leaves. The hand-filleting procedure should be used to avoid contamination of the internal gel fillet with the yellow sap. Filet the leaf, removing the green outer portion and leaving just the gel that exists in the leaf, the part being removed representing between five and ten percent of the gel. That gel hangs together by itself when the leaf is first filleted, just a few minutes later, the enzymes in the gel will break the structure down so that it will become a running fluid instead of a standing gel.
  • The gel can be processed in a kitchen blender. Or put your gel in a juicer or a cheesecloth-lined colander in a bowl. Process the gel in the juicer or crush it through the strainer into the bowl to get your aloe vera juice. Add up to a gallon of water or fruit juice to thin for drinking. Refrigerate immediately. Don't make too much at a time--aloe vera potency fades quickly.
